Oilfield Equipment Transport

FR8Star streamlines the process of finding drivers of all kinds, including those who specialize in oilfield equipment transport. FR8Star does this by offering shippers access to its network of reputable drivers with the right trucks for the job at hand.

How To Ship Oilfield Equipment For Less

At any given time, there is a lot of oilfield equipment changing hands. That means there’s a need for hauling often sizable oilfield equipment from point A to point B. When it’s time to move machinery, FR8Star is here to help you find the best professional heavy haul transport for your budget. FR8Star’s network of qualified, experienced transport companies know how to safely haul drill rigs, downhole equipment, tubular goods, drill strings, drill rods, well service and workover rigs, production equipment, and much more.

FR8Star’s network of transport companies know which trailer will be best for your oilfield machinery. Depending on the size of the components, a flatbed, hotshot, or double drop trailer may be all that’s necessary. On the other hand, taller equipment may require a drop deck or lowboy, while extremely heavy items may need a removable gooseneck (RGN) trailer. If your oil and gas goods don’t constitute a full load for a given trailer, a driver with other freight to haul may offer you a lower, less-than-truckload (LTL) rate.

Get Your Equipment Ready To Ship

Next, you’ll need to take measurements of your oilfield equipment when it’s palleted and/or disassembled for transport. Because of oversize/overweight (OS/OW) shipping regulations, it’s very important to determine the actual width, height, length, and weight of your item(s). If you’re unable to weigh the manufacturer’s website may give you an approximation of its operating weight.

Request Quotes On FR8Star

When you’re ready to start shopping for a transport company, take advantage of FR8Star’s fast and easy service. Enter a few details about your load, including the type of oilfield equipment, its location, its destination, and its dimensions, and FR8Star will reply in as little as 30 seconds with estimates from its vetted list of licensed, bonded transport companies.

FR8Star ranks its haulers in tiers (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond) to give you an idea of how long each carrier has been using FR8Star and the reviews their customers have given them. Once you identify a few haulers that seem to offer what you’re looking for, request firm quotes from them.

Planning A Route

Haulers using FR8Star’s load board determine the best route for your item, including through or near major cities along the way. If your shipment is OS/OW, the carrier will also calculate the additional cost of any permits or support vehicles necessary for the trip. For example, a load exceeding the 8.5-foot legal width limit will need a permit, while very wide (more than 12 feet) loads trigger a requirement for escort vehicles such as flag cars or pilot cars. Loads that are more than 13.5 feet tall, measured from the ground, also require a permit and possibly a pilot car with a height pole (also known as a high pole or hi-pole) driving in front of it to look out for low-hanging obstacles such as stoplights and bridges.

FR8Star’s haulers will take care of all paperwork and will include the cost of any permits or pilot vehicles in the all-inclusive bids they submit to you over the next several hours. You can then book transport with the company of your choice. Whatever your brand of oilfield equipment—Flowserve, Grant Prideco, Ingersoll-Rand, Lufkin, National Oilwell Varco (NOV), Shaffer, Shawcor, SULZER, or any other—FR8Star’s network has experienced, knowledgeable drivers ready to haul it for you.

Head ‘Em Up, Move ‘Em Out

Once you’ve booked transport, the hauler should arrive on the agreed-upon date. Note that some loads may require a crane or forklift, and the hauler will want to know in advance whether one is available at the loading site. The driver will securely strap or chain the machine in place.

Take some photos of the equipment on the trailer once it’s loaded and chained down; the driver probably will, too, to document the condition of the equipment before its journey. Most transport companies will also send you images of the machine once it safely arrives at its destination. Throughout the entire process, the hauler and FR8Star personnel will be in contact with you to make sure everything proceeds as planned. Get started today at FR8Star.com.
